March 2011 - President's Message

To our JA Friends and Supporters:
With unemployment still at unacceptable levels, our young people are especially challenged. Kids want to work but need helping in identifying what skills they must have in order to succeed in today's global economy. That's why your involvement in JA is so critical right now: by volunteering in a JA classroom and sharing your own work experience, you can show our young people what they MUST do to in order to be successful in today's workforce. And, in addition to specific job preparation, one of the most important skills for our young folks, is financial literacy. April is National Financial Literacy Month and financial literacy is one of the key components of all our JA programs. So you can teach work skills AND financial literacy. We are dedicated to the belief that each young person, given the right education, tools and financial literacy, can succeed in the global economy, regardless of other circumstances. Our kids are waiting for you to help them be prepared--please share your expertise by volunteering in a JA classroom--you can give our young people the gift of your own experience and expertise and perhaps, most importantly, a little bit of optimism about the future! Best Wishes to You All, |

Although we are encouraged by signs that the economy is recovering, a solid fiscal footing is certainly not assured. With the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis in Japan, as well as the radical changes in the Middle East, and enormous challenges in our own California economy, we still have a rough economic road ahead for an indefinite period of time.
