Titan of Industry Competition

University of Phoenix

Thank you to University of Phoenix for making the 4th Annual JA Titans of Industry Challenge possible for 18 teams from high schools around San Diego County.

JA Titan is an online simulation where students are in the CEO’s seat. They navigate a competitive market while manipulating decisions on price, production, marketing, capital investment, and R & D. The impact of their decisions leads to the success or failure of their virtual company. After weeks of in class competition, the top teams from each school qualified for the competition held at University of Phoenix last Friday, December 9th.

In addition to the competition, students were given the opportunity to hear the real-life application for what they are learning through their JA program. Chris Goodman, CFO of Sony Electronics shared the relevance of knowing how his team’s financial decisions determine the continued success of Sony Electronics. And Cecilia Williams, Campus College Chair of the School of Business for the University of Phoenix, gave the students insight on how JA Titan applies to future college business courses as well as working in the field upon graduation.

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Titan of Industry Competition - 1st place team- Clairemont High School’s AOBT – Team Apprenti - $100 gift cards to Best Buy. 2nd place team- Patrick Henry’s The 1% - $50 gift cards to Best Buy. 3rd place team- Clairemont High School’s AOBT – Team Identity - $25 gift cards to Best Buy. Chargers

Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers is one of this week's FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week nominees! Rivers completed 24 of 33 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns in the Chargers' victory over the Bills.

If Rivers gets the most QB votes, JA San Diego wins $2,000 from the FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week Awards Program in 2011. You can show your support for Junior Achievement of San Diego by casting your vote for Philip Rivers here Vote for Philip.

Don’t forget, the JA Area whose player wins this week's award will receive $2,000. Vote often.

Russian Mayor Visits JA BizTown

Russian Mayor

Mayor of Prokhladny City, Russia, Ms. Parkhomenko Yulia Viktorovna meets San Diego’s JA BizTown mayor from Rio Seco Elementary. Yulia was so impressed by the program that she is researching bringing Junior Achievement and possibly JA BizTown, to her town. She was in awe at the amount of knowledge and experience the students had gained from their experience that she only hopes JA BizTown can do the same for the children in her city back home.

President's Message

As we rush forward to the flurry of the holiday season, we pause for just a moment and reflect on the marvelous things that have already blessed us! Junior Achievement has already reached 9,457 students in the K-12 classrooms and 3,344 fifth graders have been adults for the Day at JA BizTown. Also 220 students have visited our corporate partners who welcomed them into their companies for a fabulous JA Job Shadow experience. One of our most innovative student JA Company Programs, Eco Eventerprise starred in Washington DC at the North American JA Company Program competition! We honored 4 of San Diego’s outstanding business leaders— Pat Hyndman, Mike and Barbara Morton and David Hale at our Hall of Fame dinner on November 4th---awesome! And JA is Going Green: Baker Electric installed our new 100kw solar system that will power our entire facility, including JA BizTown and our soon-to-be built JA Finance Park (for teens). All in all, it’s a great time to be involved with Junior Achievement and share the joy of impacting 46,000 youngsters in this 2011-2012 school year. We invite you to come along with us for a wonderful experience as we change the lives of our young people and prepare them for their future success! Warmest Wishes to you and yours for a delightful holiday… look forward to connecting with you in the New Year!
