BizTown for 5th Graders
The McGrath Family JA BizTown™ encourages students to learn about the free enterprise system through active participation in a simulated town. Student experiences vary from working in a bank, a television station, or a retail store, to managing personal finance such as writing checks and accounting. With a variety of hands-on activities, students realize the relationship between what they learn in school and their successful participation in a simulated economy.
This hands-on approach helps students understand their economic world and prepares them for academic learning and lifelong achievement. BizTown also provides teachers with a new approach to teaching economics, and parents are given an opportunity to actively participate in their children's learning as program volunteers.

BizTown Summer Camp
Junior Achievement offers a fast-paced weeklong summer camp for 5th and 6th graders, focused on business, economics and financial literacy. Have fun learning what it means to invent products, have a real job and run a successful business in your community.
We have even partnered with the USS Midway for this year to give campers a whole different perspective on the importance of citizens working together to create a productive community. One entire day of camp will be spent aboard the ship!

Junior Achievement Jr. Ambassadors
These are students who are identified by staff during their day at JA BizTown. JA BizTown staff members look for students who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and public speaking skills, and who have the ability to act as the “face” of Junior Achievement programs at our various events such as:
- Quarterly Volunteer Recognition Events
- Koffee with Kids (BizTown tours)
- Check presentations by JA supporters
- Other events as appropriate
A select group from our Jr. Ambassador team will be invited to participate in our Annual Business Hall of Fame Gala held each November. For more information on the Jr. Ambassador program, please contact Stacy Tessler at stessler@jasandiego.org .
