Current Volunteer Opportunities

Junior Achievement's greatest assets are our volunteers. Our K-12 financial literacy programs are solely delivered by volunteers. They ARE the back bone of our nonprofit organization. Without them, we would not able to impact 81,500 students this school year.

As the new school year begins, several volunteers are needs for the following programs:

-San Diego City and East County

-North County-Coastal

-North County- Inland

JA Day

JA in a Day is a unique initiative that allows volunteers to teach the lessons of Junior Achievement's elementary school programs in an effective one-day effort.  During the course of JA in a Day, students learn about various aspects of financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.  For instance, students in the second grade learn about "Our Community" and will have a chance to see how money moves through a community, creating jobs and generating tax proceeds that pay for schools, parks and streets. In the first grade, the students learn about “Our Families.”   The JA curriculum introduces students to family members' jobs and how professional careers contribute to the well-being of the family.

McGrath Family JA Biztown

Torrey Pines Bank employees take a break from their day jobs to work with 5th graders at JA BizTown.

McGrath Family JA BizTown is a 10,000 square foot mini-San Diego where 15,000 fifth graders each year discover how to start and run a profitable business.  Located at the Capdevilla Gillespie Center for Junior Achievement in San Diego, students are exposed to four weeks of curriculum in the classroom on how to be a good citizen, how a city’s economy works, how to apply for a job and how to run a successful business. They then put their knowledge into practice by visiting JA BizTown. Each student works a job at one of 21 life-sized San Diego businesses. The students earn paychecks, open bank accounts, pay taxes, vote, and are challenged to earn a profit in their business.

Mission Fed JA Finance Park

AT&T Employee and JA Volunteer teaches high school student how to plan and save for the future.

The state-of-the-art Mission Fed JA Finance Park brings together teachers, students, families and businesses to serve as the missing link between the classroom and the real word of adult responsibilities. The program helps students imagine who they want to be, while providing hands-on tools to plan for their future and reach their full career potential.  When students come to the Park, they receive a “life situation” and income based upon a real San Diego job they choose in the classroom. Students then have to buy a home, purchase a car, shop for groceries, make investments and save for the future. At the end of the day, students have to meet a monthly budget. They will also have the opportunity to visit our on-site career center to explore real-life job opportunities in San Diego.
