JA Brings Professionals Inside Pomerado Elementary to Teach Financial Literacy

JA in a Day is a unique initiative that allows volunteers to teach Junior Achievement's five elementary school programs.  It is an intensive and effective one-day effort.  During the course of JA in a Day, students learn about various aspects of financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.

For instance, students in the second grade will learn about "Our Community" and will have a chance to see how money moves through a community, creating jobs and generating taxs that pay for schools, parks and streets.  In fifth grade, students will study "Our Nation," where they learn about economic concepts, such as, opportunity cost and supply and demand.

More than 40 volunteers from Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University will be in the classrooms, teaching lessons to each grade, K- 5th for a total of 481 students.  Prior to the event, these volunteers participate in a two-hour orientation with the JA staff so they are fully prepared to enter the classroom.
