Junior Achievement Partners with AT&T to Empower San Diego Teens to Plan for their Financial Future

San Diego, CA, December 18, 2014 – AT&T and Junior Achievement of San Diego are partnering to teach high school students how to create a budget, plan for their future and learn to make educated, smart and effective life choices. Through this partnership, Junior Achievement received a $20,000 contribution from AT&T to benefit the JA Teen Ambassador program. This collaboration allows the Ambassadors, a team of more than 50 high school students from all over San Diego, to be the first to participate in and shape the curriculum for a “JA Finance Park” financial literacy program set to launch in San Diego in 2015.

 The JA Teen Ambassador program is a complete enrichment program that teaches the ambassadors about career options, higher education, and responsible budget planning, as well as business ethics, etiquette, and giving back to the community. Fifty teen ambassadors will be chosen through Junior Achievement’s partnerships with 36 schools in San Diego over the next two years. Each teen ambassador will serve for 18 months and will test the curriculum and technology for Junior Achievement’s forthcoming hands-on financial literacy program.

 “This practical and collaborative experience gives students the opportunity to build effective financial habits for life,” said Randy Okamura, Director of External Affairs for AT&T and Junior Achievement Board Member. “AT&T and Junior Achievement have worked together for over 13 years in San Diego, and this effort continues our shared mission to prepare our students for the future.”

 AT&T’s contribution provides the JA Teen Ambassador program with much-needed supplies, hands-on training, educational field trips, and uniforms for the teens. The financial support will also provide valuable outcome evaluations for the new high-tech paperless digital program, which will be vital to a successful JA Finance Park program launch and experience for San Diego teens in 2015.

AT&T’s financial support will also allow the JA Teen Ambassadors to adopt a needy family this holiday season. The JA teens will be purchasing gifts and personally delivering a dinner for a family of four.
