PwC volunteer teaches 3rd students how to get a job and start a business at JA Day

EVENT: Junior Achievement of San Diego will host a JA Day at El Toyon Elementary in National City on Friday, April 15 from 8am to 12noon. Volunteers from PwC will take over the entire campus K- 6 grades to teach the importance of getting a job, starting a business and how money works.

WHAT: JA in a Day is a unique initiative that allows volunteers to teach the lessons of Junior Achievement's financial literacy programs in a one-day effort. With the help of more than 25 PwC volunteers, JA students develop the skills they need to experience the realities and opportunities of work and entrepreneurship in the 21st century global marketplace.

ELEMENTS: As part of the curriculum, student are told “April 15 is Tax Day”. They will get a visit from a fellow student “tax collector” to gather money from their hard-earned pay check to pay government workers. The students are reminded taxes provide important community services, such as fighting fires, protecting neighborhoods, teaching students and building roads.

National City Mayor Ron Morrison will offer a special recognition during a press conference at 8.30 a.m. to celebrate corporate and community volunteers as a part National Appreciation Month in April.
