Summer Camp Fun At JA Finance Park
Campers had a blast at the Mission Fed JA Finance Park Summer Camp. The one-week program is designed to prepare young adults for career and financial success. Some of the highlights include:
Campers had the opportunity to meet and interact with business professionals from 12 high-growth industries during the Career Day. Campers learned about careers in construction, what skills you need to produce a monthly comic book and how to provide amazing online customer-service during peak holidays like Mother’s Day.
Often, our truest passions emerge in childhood, only to be squelched by real life pressures, so it is important to tell these young adults to have a job they love. Because if they like their job and have fun, they will be successful adults,” said Thomas Miller, Retired San Diego Police Officer with STAR/PAL nonprofit.
A special thanks to our partners for bringing this unique event to life; Alaska Airlines, Border Patrol, FTD Companies, Project Cornerstone, RD Realty, Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, Raso Solutions, Rowling and Associates, San Diego Police and County Probation Departments with the nonprofit, STAR/PAL and Southwestern College.
PwC Interviews. Campers had fun interviewing one-on-one with interns from our partners at PwC. The students worked closely with interns to identify possible career paths and practice how to apply critical thinking skills and problem-solving during a job interview. The feedback was very encouraging.
“It was really neat to see the various jobs the teens are interested in and want to pursue after high school. I had one young man that wants to be a biomedical engineer, architect and SNL comedian. I enjoyed talking to the teens about their futures and how to accomplish their career goals,” said Nate Lambka, PwC Intern and a senior at USD.
