Volunteer Spotlight: Nicole Delport
JA volunteers come from all walks of life, but they all have a common vision: sharing a message of hope and opportunity with each and every young person they reach. Such is the case with Nicole Delport. The young entrepreneur and mother of three started volunteering while working for Bank of America in Phoenix when she was 18 years-old.
“I was a very young, single mom, who worked full-time and attended university at night. I was trying to better myself and provide a great life for my kids. Volunteering was my distraction from my very busy life, which was much needed at times,” said Delport during a recent interview.
Her hard work has paid off. Since moving to California more than a decade ago, she and her partner started a new company that recently launched their first product called SNOWGRIPZ™. The tire traction system is designed to help drivers in adverse weather conditions. She also serves as the COO at a credit-consulting agency where she helps people improve their credit scores. Despite having a very busy work and family life, each year Nicole finds time to volunteer with JA, teaching and inspiring hundreds of students at Cesar Chavez Middle School in Oceanside.
“Her time in the classroom has been nothing short of spectacular,” said AVID Teacher Rachel Anderson at Cesar Chavez Middle School. “She really connects with the students one-on-one and is truly a part of our Chavez family.”
Ms. Delport brings her own entrepreneurial lessons inside the classroom. “What I love most is I get to bring my company's challenges, experiences and unsolved problems to the students and they graciously work through them with me,” said Delport. “From patent/trademark issues and marketing ideas, the students and I enjoy working together on the challenges of bringing a real product into the competitive marketplace.”
We are delighted to recognize Nicole Delport as one of our outstanding volunteers this year. If you would like to make a meaningful impact, we invite you to volunteer with JA. Get involved now by visiting jasandiego.org
