October 02, 2013
More than 80 golfers supported the nonprofit at The Grand Golf Club
On Thursday, Sept. 19, Junior Achievement (JA) of San Diego County hosted its 1st Annual JA Golf Classic presented by San Diego Fluid System Technologies. Over 80 supporters of Junior Achievement’s mission—empowering young people to own their economic success—gathered for a day out at The Grand Golf Club. The participants raised more than $138,000 for JA’s financial literacy programs offered to over 50,000 kids each year.
The golf tournament featured “hole-in-one” contests with opportunities to win prizes such as $1 million dollars, $25,000 and two-year lease on Porsche’s 911. Cocktail reception, silent auction and barbeque-style buffet followed after at The Grand Del Mar’s Club M. Auction items included a New York City package featuring “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” tickets, Travis Mathew gift cards, admission to Farmers Invitational Open at Torrey Pines, Ramona Winery tour, Callaway bags and clubs and much more.
Kevin Acee, a U-T TV sports reporter, hosted the evening program, and the auctioneer Mark Schustrin fired up the audience with the live auction items such as SeaDream yacht cruise, Villa Santaluz stay and a signed Phil Mickelson 2006 Masters Flag.
Companies who have joined the fundraising event included Baker Electric Solar, PacTrust Bank, San Diego EDC, Union Bank, Dowling & Yahnke, Procopio, Balfour Beatty, Bernstein Global Wealth Management, The B.E.S.T CEO Group, University Mechanical, San Diego Fluid System Technologies, Jack in the Box, DLA Piper, Deloitte, U-T San Diego and T.W. Ruban Group.
All proceeds from the event went to Junior Achievement’s financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship programs for kids in grades kindergarten through 12th.
