Fifth Annual Junior Achievement Golf Classic Raises over $174,000 for San Diego Kids

Thank you to our golfers and sponsors for making Junior Achievement’s 5th Annual Golf Classic a huge success! Presented by San Diego Fluid System Technologies, 103 golfers enjoyed 18 holes at the scenic Grand Golf Club on Friday, September 8th. The participants raised more than $170,000 to support JA’s mission to impact nearly 81,500 students this year by teaching them how to get a job, start a business and manage their money.
“It continues to get better every year,” said President and CEO, Mike Schleyhahn of San Diego Fluid System Technologies, who started the tournament five years ago. “This event has become one of the most significant fundraisers for JA and I am proud the tournament will give 3,500 students access to JA’s life-changing financial literacy programs this school year.”

The golf tournament, featured contests with opportunities to win prizes such as a $25,000 hole-in-one contest and a two-year lease of a 2017 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Sedan. Cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner and awards program was held on the breathtaking Aria Lawn at The Fairmont Grand Del Mar. JA's 2015 Lifetime Laureate, Rolf Benirschke served as the guest speaker. The NFL Hall of Famer interviewed the JA Student Ambassadors, who shared they are ready for the "real-world" thanks to JA's programs.
The winning groups include:
- 1st place team representing Balfour Beatty: Charlie Brown, Ryan Giddings, Bryan Rasmussen, Mark Schull;
- 2nd place team representing JA Vice Board Chair, Mike Brown and Partner at Dowling & Yahnke, 2015 Lifetime Laureate Rolf Benirschke, CEO and Founding Partner of Dowling & Yahnke, Dale Yahnke , and CoastalPayroll’s Andrew Marr.
- 3rd place team representing JA Golf Classic Chairman, Mike Schleyhahn and President at San Diego Fluid System Technologies, Leo Merk, Justin Crachy, and Evan MacKay.
